City of Albert City

The second weekend in August each year, this community of proud Swedish heritage hosts the Threshermen and Collectors Show, one of Iowa’s most unique events. Along with Albert City’s own Theiman tractor and farm equipment, this special show features displays of rare antique farm equipment, cars, crafts, horses, farm demonstrations and farm scenes from long ago. Turn of the century activities and live entertainment make this show a truly interesting, as well as enjoyable experience for all ages. The Albert City Historical Association, Inc. has a museum complex consisting of four buildings. The depot built in 1899 is listed in the National Register of Historical Places and has long been a point of interest of visitors along with being a source of civic pride. Visitors can also visit a circa 1900 furnished home, one of the first country schools in the area and a museum annex housing special exhibits. A beautiful Gazebo (Bandshell) in Downtown City Park occasionally offers live outdoor entertainment and acts as a popular gathering place. This structure is one of only a few remaining in Iowa. “Big Bertha and Fat Albert”, as they are called locally, are real eye catchers! These two enormous structures are among the largest concrete grain silos in the world, and stand as a working monument to the strong agriculturally based economy. The progressive business atmosphere of this pleasant community has resulted in the recent acquisition and improvement of a large industrial complex. This industrial park, located at the northeast edge of the city, is fully equipped and suited for general industrial facilities. Local transportation options include: a well maintained highway system, rail, and several nearby airports. Albert City is especially proud of our consolidated school system, and its fine academic and athletic achievements. Iowa traditionally produces the best educated work force in the nation, consistently ranking first or second in SAT and ACT scores. In Albert City, friendly people are proud to welcome first time visitors as well as familiar faces to share the peaceful celebration of past along with the excitement of progress toward the future.
NOTE:  We are interested in letting people know all the great things about the community of Albert City.
