Your safety is our priority.

Because we care about the safety of you and your family, Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative is active in educating about and promoting electrical safety.  We provide educational programs, have developed a number of safety web sites, and have tips to share with you.  Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative has valuable information and links that may be of interest to you and your family.  And, of course, you can always contact us for more information at 800-225-4532 for more information on any of these topics.

Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative offers educational and safety programs:

  • Professional training.  Our employees work with organizations such as countywide fire departments and emergency teams to update them on changes and updates related to electrical fires and emergencies.
  • Educational programs.  An Energy Advisor from Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative would be happy to visit your school or organization to demonstrate the importance of electrical safety.  To schedule a demonstration for your school or organization, email Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative or call 800-335-4532.

Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative offers educational and safety online resources:

  • Electrical Safety Foundation International  This site includes safety at work, at home, and for educators as well as seasonal safety tips and brochures.
  • Electrical Safety at Home and Work  This site includes how-to information on indoor and outdoor electrical projects and case studies of tragedies and how to avoid those same mistakes.
  • Safe Electricity.org  This site includes tips, news articles, videos, teacher materials and much more.
  • Energized Learning  This site offers information for middle and high school students, teachers and parents.
  • National Food and Energy Council  Information on grain bin clearances.  If you are planning to install a grain bin, check out this resource to help you plan for electrical safety. 
  • Iowa One Call  If you are planning on doing any building or landscaping, you will need to call Iowa One Call at least 48 hours prior to any digging.  This allows your local utilities to mark any underground wires, etc.  This is for your safety and will help to eliminate interruption of service.  Telephone 811 or visit Iowa One Call.
