Power Outage Safety Tips
When the power goes out, safety comes first. Follow these tips to stay safe and prepared.
Before an Outage

Build an emergency kit with flashlights, batteries, bottled water, nonperishable food, a first-aid kit, and necessary medications.
-
Charge devices such as cell phone and power banks ahead of severe weather.

Know how to manually open electric garage doors, gates, or other powered equipment.
-
Protect electronics by using surge protectors or unplugging sensitive equipment during storms.
During an Outage

Stay away from downed power lines. Always assume they're energized and report them immediately.
-
Avoid using candles due to fire risk- use flashlights instead.
-
Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to preserve food longer.
-
Turn off or unplug major appliances to prevent overloads when power is restored.
-
Check on neighbors, especially the elderly or those with medical needs.
After Power is Restored
